Watch Steve Stine demo Cort’s new Gold-OC6 Bocote, an acoustic that ‘looks, feels and sounds great, right out of the box’
New model boasts exotic tonewoods, flexible Fishman Flex Blend electronics and smart appointments, all at an affordable price
If you’re looking for a guitar that sounds great, looks great and won’t break the bank, might we direct your eyes and ears to Cort’s new Gold-OC6 Bocote acoustic?
The new model features, as its name suggests, back and sides made of bocote, an exotic tonewood known to be tonally similar to rosewood. In addition to top-notch tone, bocote is aesthetically stunning, with a majestic wood grain pattern in yellow, orange and dark brown with distinct black lines.
What’s more, the bocote is paired with a premium grade solid Sitka spruce top treated with Cort’s ATV (aged-to-vintage) torrefaction process to produce the big, open tone of a decades-old acoustic right out of the box.
As for the other part of the OC6’s name? We’re talking about an Orchestra (OM)-style body, with a Cutaway (C) for easy access to the uppermost frets.
As for how the instrument sounds? Check out guitar ace and instructor Steve Stine’s demo at the top of this video, where he performs a short jam he recorded to showcase the tone you can get from the Gold-OC6 Bocote.
“One of the most important things to me when you grab a guitar is, how does it feel?,” Steve says. “And this guitar absolutely felt good right out of the box.”
“The next thing that’s most important to me,” he continues, “is, how does it sound? And when I’m playing live, how does it sound plugged in?”
In a word, the Cort Gold-OC6 Bocote sounds, well, golden. In addition to the solid tonewoods, this is largely thanks to the innovative built-in Fishman Flex Blend System, which offers a wide range of sonic control with Volume, Tone, Phase and Blend options, as well as a Tuner function. As Steve makes clear in his detailed demonstration of the guitar in conjunction with the Fishman mic + piezo system, the result is massive tonal flexibility right at your fingertips, allowing for the most natural acoustic sound via an amplification system.
And that’s not all you get with the Cort Gold-OC6. There’s also a walnut-reinforced mahogany neck, Macassar ebony fingerboard with hand-rolled fret-edge treatment, hand-scalloped X-bracing, Deluxe Vintage Gold tuners and more. Aesthetic touches include a Gold Custom MOP inlay, abalone rosette and black with triple-ply purfling binding.
“There’s no doubt this guitar looks great,” Steve says. “But more important than that is how does it work for you in terms of your daily playing? Can I play it easily? And I really believe that the Cort Gold-OC6 Bocote, because it’s not so expensive, would be great for a beginner or intermediate player or an electric player that wants to find a good acoustic to play. Or somebody who just needs a guitar to be able to plug in and do your home recording or professional recording and be able to get a great tone right away. It’s a great guitar.”
