Seven repeat time combinations, up to 1600ms of stereo delay and Core Image technology for authentic Wow, Flutter and Saturation sounds in a compact design
All of us pedal hounds at one point or another have craved getting our hands on a vintage 1970s-era Space Echo unit. Now, thanks to NUX, you can get all the classic sound of the legendary effect, with updated features and minus the hefty price tag, with the company’s new NDD-7 Tape Echo pedal – a floor-based reverb/delay pedal.
The new NDD-7 “looks like a miniaturized version of a Space Echo from the ‘70s,” Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario says. “But no tiny tape reels are incorporated inside the pedal.” Rather, “NUX uses their Core Image technology to capture all the warm characteristics of the wow and flutter, low noise self-oscillation and self-regeneration and saturation of that retro echo sound in a dual-footswitch stompbox.”
Features include up to 1600ms of stereo delay time, and all the essential knobs like bass and treble, time, repeat, level, reverb and select for adjustments.
As Paul explains, “The select knob shows you on the small display screen the various tape head combinations in milliseconds and bpms, and let me add there are seven of these Repro-Tape combinations. You can also short press and hold the select knob to engage secondary functions for saturation, wow and flutter, kill dry and expression pedal.”

And that’s not all: You also get a warm and natural-sounding spring reverb and a looper, the latter of which is engaged by pressing both footswitches at the same time. Once turned on, the bypass switch becomes a record/play/dub tool.
As an added bonus, the NDD-7 can also be tweaked via Nux’s online editor – a tool that lets you assign MIDI settings. “A very cool thing is the free online software editor for the tape echo that mirrors the face of the pedal and allows for easy adjustments of the primary controls and secondary functions,” Paul says. “Here I will say having this software editor for the pedal makes it far more practical in seeing and controlling all the potential parameters of this tape echo.”
