Watch Jay Leonard J try out the high-quality, super-affordable Boroughs B30DMH dreadnought guitar
New York City-based brand offers a fresh and great-sounding take on the entry-level acoustic
Boroughs Guitars is one of the newest name in the acoustic marketplace, and the brand’s instruments are aimed at similarly just-starting-out players.
As guitar ace Jay Leonard J points out in this demo video, “the design philosophy is about coming out with an affordable, well-made acoustic for all of you that are starting that wonderful, wonderful journey of being a guitar player – probably the best decision you’ll ever make in your life.”
How does Boroughs keep its instruments so affordable? By focusing on “really practical things,” Jay continues. “Things that are going to make the guitar easier to play, require less maintenance and really help you get going on the journey.”
For just one great example, check out the Boroughs B30DMH in Jay’s hands, which retails for well under $200. The acoustic features a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck and a techwood fingerboard. There’s also traditional X-bracing, 15:1 sealed gear tuners, a Graph Tech NuBoneXB nut and compensated saddle and D’Addario EXP16 coated strings.
“And even though it’s a dreadnought, there’s a nice quick, small neck,” Jay says. “It’s great for strumming, with a lot of projection and a lot of resonance, too.”
