Vola’s new OZ RV TNC electric guitar is built for “speed, comfort, efficiency and classic and high-output tones”
Made-in-Japan six-string sports a trio of Vola-designed pickups in a unique fanned pickup layout, innovative ‘blower’ switch, fast-playing roasted maple neck and much more
An internationally-known brand recognized for its high-quality designs and expertise in the musical instrument field which is required to make incredible guitars and basses, Vola Guitars is continuing its impressive run with the new OZ RV TNC double-cut electric.
The made-in-Japan model is available in three unique colorways – Light Tiger Eye Burst, Sapphire Blue Gloss and Tribal Black Gloss – and boasts a high-gloss lightweight chambered mahogany body with a flame maple top, a satin-finished one-piece roasted maple neck and stainless-steel frets, as well as a unique Vola-designed Fanned Pickup Layout.
The result, as Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario says, is a top-of-the-line, high-performance guitar that is “about the best you can get from Vola before you bump into their custom shop line.”
In addition to the above features, Paul says, “I love the overall sleekness of the guitar – there are generous cutaways that give you all access to the highest frets, and the way the guitar sits across the body, it just fits you like a glove.”
But the real firepower, Paul continues, is in the Fanned Pickup Layout. “This configuration, with the reverse slanted middle and rhythm pickups, increases the response from the treble strings and smooths out the low end on the wound strings,” he says.
The pickups – a humbucker at the bridge, single coil in the middle and a blade humbucker in a single coil housing at the neck – are direct-mounted for unbridled tones, and they’re all Vola-designed.
Additionally, Paul points out, “Vola added a push-pull volume control for the neck pickup, so engaging it turns on the neck pickup all the time for numerous combinations.” The tone knob, meanwhile, “is a push-pull coil tap for the humbucker, adding even more combinations. So it’s really, really versatile.”
But that’s not all. Vola has added one more secret weapon – a “blower” switch that “totally bypasses the volume and tone controls, offering maximum tonal output,” Paul says.
His verdict?
“I’m knocked out by the Vola OZ RV TNC,” Paul says. “It’s a guitar that addresses almost every single ergonomic detail for speed, comfort, efficiency and classic and high-output tones. Not to mention, this guitar is ridiculously easy to play and shred on. This is an impeccably-made instrument that feels like a custom shop guitar, and one of the finest high-performance guitars I’ve come across. It’s a real joy to play.”
