PRS Guitars and NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon auction collector guitar
Jeff Gordon and PRS Guitars have teamed up to auction a one-of-a-kind instrument signed by Gordon, Chip Foose and Carlos Santana. The guitar, a CE Mahogany Model PRS, features the same DuPont Hot Hues paint finish as the Hot Hues “Heat Waves and Flames” No. 24 DuPont race car driven by Gordon. Proceeds for this unique instrument will benefit the Jeff Gordon Foundation, and the guitar’s online auction, held from October 15 through October 28, will have no reserve. PRS and Gordon announced the auction initiative during the NASCAR Nextel Cup Chevy Rock & Roll 400 race in Richmond this September.
The guitar was originally shown at the 2005 SEMA show in Las Vegas when Jeff Gordon and designer Chip Foose unveiled the Hot Hues “Heat Waves and Flames” No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet. Since then, the instrument has been shown at auto and music events as well as various NASCAR races. Carlos Santana signed the guitar in 2006, cementing the bond between fast cars and rock and roll
“Chip did an amazing job with the car, and PRS captured the concept well with their guitar,” Gordon said. “Someone will end up owning a great-looking, great-sounding guitar with the proceeds benefiting a worthy cause.”
Since 1999, the Jeff Gordon Foundation has provided resources to the nation’s top centers for pediatric research and care. Funds raised by the Foundation have been used to purchase life-saving equipment and to advance critical research aimed at eradicating many diseases which threaten the lives of children.
“Companies rarely have the opportunity to partner in such an important way,” said Jack Higginbotham, President of PRS Guitars. “We are pleased to join Jeff in his mission to improve the lives of children facing life-threatening chronic diseases. We were able to raise more than $25,000 at Jeff’s fundraiser in 2006 and now look forward to the good that will come from the auction of this extraordinarily rare instrument.” Further details can be found at www.jeffgordonfoundation.org.
