Meet Donner’s Hush-I Silent guitar, the “ultimate portable, travel and gig-ready instrument”

We all love playing guitar anytime, anywhere, and now, thanks to the Donner Hush-I Silent guitar, you truly can.

The travel-ready headless instrument is a novel design weighing, as Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario says in the above demo, “pretty much the same as a laptop and coming in a travel bag that’s as long as a yardstick.”

Simply put, it’s a guitar that he’s “currently obsessed with.”

Boasting a one-piece cherry or mahogany body and an ebony fretboard, the acoustic-electric instrument features a built-in headphone jack and is ideal for quiet practice. Additionally, the bars on either end of the body, which allow it to sit more like a conventional guitar, are detachable, making it easy to store and carry in the included gig bag.

Other features? “The neck has a progressive neck curvature that encourages stress-free comfort for your wrist and 20 smooth, rounded frets,” Paul says. Electronics, meanwhile, include a piezo pickup and Donner’s custom-designed preamp with two-band EQ adjustment and phase button to eliminate feedback, and the Hush-I is powered by a nine-volt battery that will last up to 50 hours.

The tuners, meanwhile, are also headless and located at the bottom of the guitar to keep them out of the way, with a reduced chance of knocking the instrument out of tune.

Best of all, “What’s really surprising is how full and balanced the tone is coming from a headless-designed guitar,” Paul says.

His verdict? “With a truly plug-and-play pickup system and the ability to play anytime, anywhere, in utmost comfort, the Hush-I is truly the ultimate portable, travel and gig-ready guitar.”
