Scaled-down 000-size model boasts premium woods and appointments, with personal design touches from the Grammy-nominated multi-platinum singer-songwriter
We see plenty of signature guitar models here at Guitar World, but none of them are quite like Martin’s new 000JR-10E Shawn Mendes acoustic.
The new model, as Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario points out, is “inspired by Shawn’s go-to vintage Martin and features his own personal hallmarks. What’s more, it’s environmentally-friendly.”
Spec-wise, the 000JR-10E boasts a slightly scaled-down 000 Junior 14 Fret body size – “slightly smaller than Martin’s regular 000 size,” Paul says – composed from a Sitka spruce top and sapele back and sides. You also get a High Performance Taper neck, Martin’s scalloped X Brace pattern and Fishman Sonitone electronics, “so it’s ready for the stage.”

Shawn fans will also take notice that the acoustic features some personal design details, including the image of a swallow, similar to Shawn’s tattoo, laser-etched on to the wings of the bridge, as well as the Grammy-nominated multi-platinum singer-songwriter’s signature inlaid near the top of the fretboard.
Additionally, the 000JR-10E features a label sporting the Shawn Mendes Foundation sunburst logo, as well as hidden laser-etchings of Mendes’s lyrics, which can be found at the bracing, or under the bridge or rosette.
And that’s not all: As Paul states, the guitar is fully environmentally-friendly, standing as Martin’s largest production run of 100% FSC certified guitars, and also comes with a very cool gig bag made from recycled ocean plastic.
Adding to the thoughtfulness behind the instrument, in support of Shawn, Martin is making a contribution to the Wonder of Music Program at the Hospital for Sick Children presented by the Shawn Mendes Foundation.
“The Martin 000JR-10E Shawn Mendes is a wonderfully great-playing guitar that’s affordable, sounds great and supports a great cause,” Paul says. “At a retail price of $799, this acoustic is within reach for enthusiasts and novice guitarists alike.”
He continues, “I would also add my impression of this acoustic is it follows in the same vein as the Martin Ed Sheeran model in its compactness and playability that you can take anywhere from home or to the studio to the stage.”
