Just how tough is Gator’s new G-ICONELECTRIC guitar case? Watch Jay Leonard J put it to the torture test
The heavy-duty, feature-rich gig bag stands up to the toughest punishment
For guitarists, there’s few things more precious to us than our instruments. And to keep them safe and sound when traveling to and from practice, recording sessions and gigs, we need the best-quality case around.
With that in mind, Gator Cases has created the ICON Series, the company’s flagship range of ultra-premium gig bags.
The new bags boast weather-resistant exteriors and micro-velvet interiors with ergonomically-designed body blocks, as well as reinforced fronts, foam footing and heavy-duty, padded backpack straps.
There’s also back and side carry handles, pop-out luggage tags, rain covers and even QR codes for registration and tracking.
"Looking at all the detailing, you can tell this is a pretty heavy-duty piece of equipment,” says guitar ace Jay Leonard J in the above demo video. “In fact, the whole concept was it’s supposed to be portable like a gig bag but it has the durability of a hardshell case. Throw it in an airplane, throw it in the back of your truck, throw it around town. It should be able to handle that guitar and keep it cozy the whole time.”
Just to make sure, Jay puts one of the models, the G-ICONELECTRIC, to the test. “Today,” he says, “we’re going to see if this guitar can handle an afternoon of torture.”
And so Jay loads up the Gator G-ICONELECTRIC with a brand-new Fender American Performer Jazzmaster and takes it out for a day of torture. “I’m going to throw it out of some things, I’m going to toss it around and we’re going to see if the case can handle that damage.”
To witness the brutality and see the results for yourself, check out the video above. One word of caution: If you’ve never seen a guitar case used as a sled, be prepared…
