Gibson Releases Jimmy Page Double Neck
An iconic symbol of rock and roll's power and possibility, the double neck has always been a jewel in Gibson's crown, acting as both a tribute to incredible guitar building and historic guitar playing. Today, the tradition lives on with the release of the Custom Shop's Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck, the pinnacle of the double necks offered by Gibson.
During Led Zeppelin's heyday, Page used the double neck to deliver the intricate studio arrangement of “Stairway to Heaven” to enraptured, stadium crowds. During live performances of the epic, Page would alternate from the bottom 6-string for the delicate fingerpicking in the song's intro and verses, as well as the song's spiraling guitar solo, to the ringing 12-string for the song's bridge and lighter-raising final chorus. Only the double neck could provide a sound big enough for Led Zeppelin's biggest hit, and Page would keep it onstage to perform classics like “The Song Remains the Same” and “Rain Song.”
The new Jimmy Page Double Neck is being offered in three versions:
Custom Shop Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck
The Jimmy Page Signature Double Neck is a painstaking recreation of Jimmy's original '71 model. A fixture during live performances of one of the best loved songs of all time, “Stairway to Heaven,” the Page Double Neck is a collector's item with maximum functionality. Crafted in the style of Jimmy's EDS-1275, the mahogany 6- and 12-string necks are outfitted with rosewood fingerboards. The body's period-correct mahogany is finished in a meticulously weathered dark cherry and done up with chrome hardware and strap locks, a period-correct 5-ply pickguard, four Page pickups, and two volume and tone control knobs. A run of 250 Jimmy Page Signature Double Necks, and 25 Limited Edition Aged Double Necks, come with a Custom Shop case, certificate of authenticity, custom care kit, two-DVD box set Led Zeppelin, and a copy of a private interview with Jimmy regarding the Double Neck.
Even more exclusively, each of the 25 Limited Edition Aged Double Necks has been inspected by Jimmy Page personally to ensure they meet his exacting standards. To authenticate the exclusive Limited Edition models, Jimmy will sign both headstocks of each guitar.
Custom Shop EDS-1275
Available in Alpine White and Heritage Cherry, today's EDS-1275 adheres to the same superior specifications of its 1962 ancestor, including a 1960 slim taper profile on both necks, two volume and tone control knobs, a three-way pickup-selector switch, and a three way neck-selector switch. Both the 6- and 12-string necks are embellished with pearloid split parallelogram inlay, gleaming chrome hardware, and vintage tulip tuners. The double-duty guitar is also outfitted with four humbucking pickups, single-ply white binding, and a black pickguard. The EDS-1275 includes a Custom Shop case and certificate of authenticity.
Epiphone G-1275 Custom SG
Modeled after Page's barrier-busting double neck, the affordable cherry Epiphone G-1275 is hewn with a curly maple top, alder body, mahogany necks, and rosewood fretboards. Parallelogram inlays, gleaming chrome hardware, and an ebony pickguard off-set this iconoclastic guitar, mounted with both a 6-string and 12-string neck. The modified SG body is equipped with four humbuckers, two volume and tone control knobs, and a three-way pickup selector switch for optimum versatility and playability. The G-1275 comes with a custom hardshell case.
