Explore the wide range of tones offered by Donner’s versatile and affordable DST-400 electric guitar
New model boasts alder body, maple neck, HSS pickup configuration with coil tap and much more
Donner makes a variety of electric guitars as well as numerous other musical products. But the DST-400 electric guitar is the most important member of the DST family, and Paul Riario is here to demonstrate why. “It’s a beautiful guitar that offers so much at an affordable price point,” he says at the top of this demo video, and indeed it is.
The DST-400 boasts an alder body, maple neck with a comfortable C-shaped profile and ultra-fast, smooth satin finish and a laurel fingerboard. You also get a two-point tremolo with a cold-rolled steel block for warm, powerful sounds and a choice of two finishes: vintage dark green and classic black.
But that’s not all: The DST-400 offers the hugely popular and extremely versatile HSS pickup combination, with single coils in the neck and middle positions and a humbucker at the bridge for “hotter output and searing lead tones,” Paul says.
What’s more, in addition to a standard five-way selector switch, the guitar is also equipped with a coil-splitting tone pot for an additional tonal option. “Leaving it in place, you get the full humbucking tone,” Paul says. “Or if you pull up on the tone control you get the classic single-coil spank.”
The outcome is seven distinct tones, and Paul takes us through each one of them, first using a clean tone and gradually dialing in more gain. The results speak for themselves.
“The Donner DST-400 not only has a wealth of rich and balanced tones,” he concludes, “but it’s also lightweight and plays easily. And it’s a great guitar for any beginner or intermediate players because of its enticing value.”
