Explore deep bass tones with the ultra-versatile, super-comfortable Reverend Mercalli 4
Features include a solid Korina body, 5-piece maple and walnut neck, proprietary pickups and much more
Looking for a 4-string bass that’s big, deep and punchy, with excellent clarity? Look no further than Reverend’s new Mercalli 4, an extremely versatile, incredibly comfortable and awesome-sounding instrument that covers all your low-end needs.
Just ask bass ace Nicole Row, who has played with everyone from Miley Cyrus to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon band to Panic! At the Disco. The Mercalli, she says, “is super lightweight, which is great. And there’s a really nice balance from the neck to the body. The back of the neck has a natural finish which I love. No sticking while you’re playing. And it’s a beautiful green color. My favorite.”
Nicole then dives into the bass’ impressive specs, which include a solid Korina body with a 5-piece maple and walnut neck, as well as Hipshot Ultralight Tuners, a string-thru-body design with top-load action and ¾-inch spacing on the bridge.
Electronics consist of a proprietary split-brick humbucker at the neck and a thick brick humbucker at the bridge, with volume, tone and pickup pan controls to help you dial in the exact mix of the pickups.
As for how the Mercalli sounds? Take a listen as Nicole tries out a variety of techniques, included palm-muted fingerplucking, slap bass and palm-muted picking , as well as dials in a plethora of tones.
“After playing around with this bass, I love the sustain, I love the clarity,” she says. “I love that it’s still clean while having a lot of low end to it. I especially love the playability of the neck. A lot of the basses I go for are just maple, but this is maple and walnut which in my opinion is adding more to that warm sound you’re getting from the bass.”
Additionally, Nicole adds, “I have a lot of confidence in the road-worthiness of the bass, with the locked-down bridge and five-piece neck. You could travel pretty hard with it and it seems like it’s going to stay in great condition.”
The Mercalli, she says, is “a really cool bass. I’m a fan.”
