Donner takes portable travel-guitar design to the next level with the full-scale, lightweight HUSH-X headless electric
Upgraded HUSH model boasts detachable neck-through design, headless tuning system and bridge, and humbucker/single-coil pickup set for great tone and playability, everywhere you go
Last year Donner unveiled the HUSH-I silent guitar, a headless acoustic-electric with detachable body bars for easy portability. Now, Donner has taken the headless travel-guitar design to new heights with the HUSH-X, a premium-playing and -sounding electric guitar with upgraded features and performance.
Like its predecessor, the HUSH-X boasts detachable bars that affix to each side of the guitar’s body. But the HUSH-X adds in an innovative detachable neck-through design, along with upgraded metal ware for quick removal and assembling for even easier-to-carry, one-second storage and setup.
Elsewhere, you get either a mahogany body and a graduated asymmetrical-profile neck that’s topped with a compound 403mmR fretboard, and new, wider progressive upper and lower brackets for better ergonomics and increased comfortability.
The result is an incredible on-the-go instrument, but also so much more. “Donner may call it a travel guitar, but the HUSH-X is actually a super lightweight – less than five pounds – full size instrument with a 25 ½ inch scale length that feels, performs and sounds just like a traditional solid body,” says Guitar World Tech Editor Paul Riario.
The HUSH-X’s headless design is facilitated by a six-saddle fixed bridge with built-in thumbscrew tuners, and electronics include a high-output humbucker at the bridge and an Alnico V single coil. “The bridge rips with a hot-rod humbucker tone while the single coil offers vintage-like tones,” Paul says.
There’s also a three-position flat switch and 2-in-1 volume/tone knob, as well as a 3.5mm headphone output, an active/passive circuit switch, an aux-in input, and a 6.35 port output for multi-site use, making the HUSH-X ideal for the touring musician or guitar learner who wants to practice anytime, anywhere, without disturbing others.
And that’s not all – Donner has packed the HUSH-X with, as Paul puts it, “a ton of goodies that added generous extra value,” including a portable gig bag, a Donner tuner, custom guitar picks, a wipe cloth, hex keys for the truss rod, saddles and guitar head, a custom padded strap, headphones and much more.
As for how the HUSH-X sounds and plays? Watch as Paul puts the innovative instrument through its paces in the above video.
“Thanks to its minimal design, the Donner HUSH-X certainly is compact and lightweight enough to be ideal for traveling musicians,” he says. “But let’s not forget – it performs every bit as good as a traditional full-size solid body, with big sounding pickups and a fatigue-free neck profile, making it a great-sounding all-around electric for beginner or advanced players alike.”
