NAMM 2024: “It’s going to make you think different, play different and make new music”: Explore Cream Guitars’ range of aesthetically innovative and high-spec’d guitars – complete with a finish that literally changes color
Top notch hardware, wholly fresh body shapes and utterly wild visuals – feast your eyes on Cream Guitars' catalog of irresistible instruments
NAMM 2024: At the NAMM show, having an attention-grabbing display is crucial. The more eyeballs you can bring to your booth, the greater the number of intrigued players you’re going to get swinging by to check out the gear.
At the 2024 show, one stand stood out among all the others, and that was the one assembled by Cream Guitars – a relatively young guitar company, whose catalog is filled with freshly shaped, premium-spec’d and visually stunning electric guitars.
Guitar World’s Paul Riario was on hand at the show to check out the display, calling it “by far the best-looking and most visually stunning booth” of them all.
But the brand shouldn’t just get plaudits for its flashy displays and bold marketing aesthetics: Cream Guitars have the substance to go with the style, producing a range of genuinely unique instruments that are fitted with top of the line specs.
Riario was given an extensive tour of the Cream Guitars catalog, which includes the HSS Revolver, the HH Voltage and an utterly amazing color-changing model, which was designed in collaboration with a company that is developing electromagnetically charged paint.
“When we change the electromagnetic field, we can change the color,” explained brand CEO and designer Luis Ortiz. “So you can keep it white if you are going to play in the morning at church, and then you can turn it black for your death metal gig. In a world full of copies, be an original.”
Color-changing finishes aren’t the only eye-catching aesthetic options available. A dazzling blue-flake metallic finish, a wholly natural artwork composed from embedding actual flowers into the top, and a textured model with skull motifs across the body are just some of the other options on tap.
And, like we said above, these guitars have the substance to go with the style. Across the board, you can expect to find Seymour Duncan pickups, Switch Craft and GraphTech hardware, and top notch tonewoods such as mahogany and wenge.
Cream Guitars has also developed a neck-heel-to-bridge plate (constructed from the same material that cymbals are crafted from) that aims to help increase resonance and sonic character.
Furthermore, the brand can build fully custom-made-to-order instruments, “for any show, any album, for any artist”.
“We have been developing for three years this dream to be an amazing new guitar that can take you to another place,” said Ortiz. “For me, guitars are part of your body. It’s like an interface that connects your brain, your heart, your hands with things you want to scream from your soul.
“This has another shape, another vibe, another flavor, so it’s going to make you think different, play different, and I’m pretty sure that it’s going to help you make new music. That’s the basic idea of making these guitars.”
