Origin: Chuck Berry’s opening lick in “Johnny B. Goode” is one of the greatest and most-copped blues-rock licks of all time. This famous lick originated from the blues boogie with a straight-eighth feel. Theory: Berry hits the chord tones in addition to a 6th (F#) and a passing blues move (C to C#). Playing Tip: Use all down strokes to get a uniform attack.
