“From metal machines to versatile all-rounders”: Explore the Ibanez GIO range – a powerhouse of the high-performance guitar market that caters to every discerning taste
Heralding from the premium RG family, the Ibanez GIO electrics offer top-notch specs and high-end quality in a more budget-friendly package
When it comes to rock and metal guitars, there is but one model that stands out among the rest: the Ibanez RG – a supremely spec’d weapon of all-out shred and beyond that, for the past three decades, has continually helped raise the bar for high-performance electrics.
But a guitar that has been equally influential in the metal market is the Japanese brand’s GIO lineup, which puts top-notch Ibanez performance, playability and tones into a far more affordable package that refuses to compromise on quality.
An offshoot of the OG RG collection, the GIO lineup comprises a number of high-performance six-strings that all offer a variety of hardware options, pickup configurations and aesthetics.
The GRGR330EX, for example, is an especially metal-minded model, with a black-out vibe, reverse headstock, and a double-locking tremolo to facilitate even the most grueling shreds and stage performances.
Dual Infinity R humbuckers help give it a serious sonic sucker punch, while the Purpleheart fretboard complements the matte black colorway for a muted yet eye-catching design.
As mentioned, there are GIOs that cater to a wide range of musical and aesthetic tastes. If the GRGR330EX isn’t quite your speed, there’s the GRX120SP – a classy and versatile alternative that is available in some more vibrant finishes, including Vivid Red, Pale Blue and Metallic Light Blue Matte.
Again, a pair of humbuckers make the cut, but here a more traditional six-saddle T106 tremolo bridge has been drafted in, alongside a Jatoba fretboard.
Another highlight of the GIO family can be found in the form of the GRG120Q. This particular model is one of the more daring designs in the GIO lineup, pairing its basswood/poplar body with a quilted maple art grain top.
Of course, it’s not all about looks. Each of the above – and, indeed, the entire GIO range – have been primed for top-tier performance, and have undergone the same rigorous inspection, set-up and warranty processes as their pricier counterparts.
“No matter which Ibanez GIO model catches your eye, you're guaranteed a guitar that delivers on both performance and value,” promises Ibanez. “From metal machines to versatile all-rounders, Ibanez continues to prove that quality and affordability can go hand in hand.”
