With properties of both an electric and acoustic guitar – and a feel that supports both – Baldacci’s Bighorn model is an impressive upscale entry in the semi-hollowbody market.
It combines a maple top and back with a mahogany rim to deliver tone that’s striking in both its warmth and clarity.
The Bighorn’s body has a top wood/middle wood/backwood design with a layer of mahogany sandwiched between a top and bottom of carved maple. The guitar’s mahogany neck, meanwhile, has a standard “C” shape and sports 22 frets on a rosewood fretboard at a scale length of 25.125” and radius of 12”. A beautiful mountain inlay – reflecting the company’s Arizona heritage – marks the 12th fret.
Sonically, the Bighorn is armed with custom Mountain Bridge and Mountain Neck pickups with special, tight-tolerance volume and tone controls and a three-way pickup selector switch.
The richness and variety of the tones the Bighorn offers are on full display in the above demo, which shows YouTube guitar favorite Steve Stine taking the guitar for a spin, and going through its numerous mouth-watering appointments.
Speaking of appointments, the Bighorn is available with a wrap-around or tremolo-ready bridge and 14:1 Buffalo locking tuners to hold intonation.
The Bighorn comes with a hardshell case, and starts at $2,849. There are a number of optional upgrades though, including a premium maple top, GraphTech wraparound ghost loaded piezo bridge, a neck coil split, and gold hardware.
