The latest and greatest of those changes are reflected in the new Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII 100-watt head, which provides impressive tonal refinements and new features certain to satisfy the most demanding players.

FEATURES The Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII is a two-channel head driven by four EL34 tubes in the power section, four 12AX7 tubes in the preamp section, and two 12AT7 tubes for reverb and the effects loop. The clean channel features a non-master volume circuit and provides volume, treble, and bass controls. The dirty channel has volume, gain, and bass, middle, and treble EQ controls. Both channels share the tube-driven spring reverb section featuring a reverb level control and a footswitchable attenuator that maintains the character and response of power tube distortion while allowing users to play at reduced volume levels. The amp also includes a half-power switch on the front panel and a 4/2 tube selector switch on the rear panel that let users select 100-, 70-, 50-, or 30-watts of output.

Other rear panel features include a pair of 8-ohm 1/4-inch speaker outputs, a single 16-ohm 1/4-inch speaker output, individual footswitch jacks for the attenuator, reverb, and channel switching, and send and return jacks for the serial effects loop. The amp is housed in Orange’s characteristic orange-colored cabinet, but Orange also the amp with black basket-weave vinyl covering for players who want a more traditional, stealthy look. The control panel is decorated with Orange’s classic “pictogram” graphics instead of boring names.

PERFORMANCE Orange refined the voicing of both the Rockerverb 100 MKIII’s clean and dirty channels, making it a much more versatile amp than previous iterations of the Rockerverb. The clean channel has increased clean headroom and tone that is more sparkling and “chimey” than before, combining the zing of an AC30, the percussive attack of a Hiwatt, and the powerful punch of a classic late-Sixties Orange. The clean channel is very lively and sexy, particularly when the amp’s luscious spring reverb with its long, velvety-smooth decay is dialed in. The clean channel also provides tantalizing overdrive crunch when the volume knob is cranked up past the three-o’clock mark.

The dirty channel remains the main reason why Rockerverb amps have found homes on stage and in the studio with a new breed of hard rock and metal guitarists, producing everything from classic British crunch to mind-melting modern high-gain distortion textures that are thick and harmonically complex.

The attenuator and selectable output make it easy for guitarists to achieve the exact clean or distortion character and responsiveness they want from the amp at any volume level from an apartment dweller’s whisper to a stage-filler’s scream. The control panel is quite simple and streamlined, but it makes it easy to dial in a surprisingly wide variety of tones ideal for almost any style of music from the most chilled out country to the heaviest metal.

LIST PRICE $2,149; Rockerverb 50 MKIII, $1,999
MANUFACTURER Orange Amplification, orangeamps.com

The revoiced clean channel provides expanded clean headroom and enhanced treble chime. A footswitchable attenuator maintains the power, character, and responsiveness of a fully driven amp at lower output levels.

THE BOTTOM LINE The Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII is designed to provide Orange’s heaviest tones to date, but the refined clean channel is so sweet that players of any musical style should check it out.

http://www.guitarworld.com/review-orange-rockverb-100-mkiii#comments July 2015 Orange Orange Amplification Videos Amps News Gear Magazine Wed, 20 May 2015 16:19:03 +0000 Chris Gill, Video by Paul Riario 24515 at http://www.guitarworld.com Have We Accidentally Spotted a Prototype Orange Amps Effect Pedal? http://www.guitarworld.com/orange-amps-making-effect-pedals
NOTE: Updated Thursday, February 26

Yesterday, the gang at Orange Amps posted this photo (below) to the company's official Facebook page.

The photo was accompanied by the harmless caption, "Orange Ambassadors Monolord took a tour of Orange HQ and met with our Lead Designer and Mad Scientist Adrian Emsley."

That's very nice and all, but what's that, um, pedal behind the denim-clad blond-haired guy on our far left?

The effect pedal, which is of the large, rectangular variety, is black with orange knobs and clearly sports an Orange Amps logo. The top panel even includes Orange’s classic picture graphics for each control and input. This two-channel amp provides separate volume controls for the Clean and Dirty channels, while both channels share treble, middle and bass EQ. The Dirty channel also includes its own gain control. Instead of the variety of digital effects found on previous Crush Series amps, the 35RT features only digital reverb, which is shared by both channels and features a reverb level control. Channel switching can be controlled using the mini toggle switch on the front panel or an optional footswitch connected to the 1/4-inch footswitch jack.

The amp’s built-in tuner, 1/8-inch input for connecting a CD or MP3 player, and 1/4-inch headphone jack (featuring 4x12 cabinet simulation) support its role as a practice amp, but features like channel switching and a fully buffered, low-impedance mono effect loop encourage players to take it out of the practice room and onto the stage for gigs.

PERFORMANCE Like Orange’s Terror Series amps, the Crush 35RT may be small, but it is impressively loud. The Clean channel is exactly that, retaining clean headroom without a hint of overdrive across its entire output range, which makes it a great platform for a pedal rig. The Dirty channel delivers delicious overdrive crunch with the gain control set below 12 o’clock. Higher gain settings produce fuzzy, buzzy distortion at lower volume levels, but as the Dirty channel volume is cranked up, those settings bloom into aggressive high-gain tones with more body.

The digital reverb sounds rich and natural. It blends nicely with distortion settings, retaining attack and definition instead of becoming blurred mush. The effect-loop section may consist only of send and return jacks, but it’s a welcome feature that elevates the 35RT above the average practice amp.

CHEAT SHEET
LIST PRICE $259
MANUFACTURER Orange Amplification, orangeamps.com

A two-channel, 35-watt amp with built-in digital reverb, effect loop and a single 10-inch speaker.

Channels can be selected using the mini toggle switch on the front panel or an optional footswitch connected to the 1/4-inch footswitch jack.

THE BOTTOM LINE The Orange Crush 35RT is perfect for players who want an affordable classic-style amp for practice that can also hold its own during gigs

http://www.guitarworld.com/review-orange-crush-35rt-guitar-amp-video#comments Gold Award March 2015 Orange Orange Amplification Videos Amps News Gear Magazine Fri, 30 Jan 2015 16:25:44 +0000 Chris Gill, Video by Paul Riario 23400 at http://www.guitarworld.com NAMM 2015: Orange Amplification Launches Tangle-Free Twister Instrument Cable http://www.guitarworld.com/namm-2015-orange-amplification-launches-tangle-free-twister-instrument-cable
Follow Guitar World's coverage of the 2015 Winter NAMM Show with gear news and videos on GuitarWorld.com, updates on Facebook and photos and more on Twitter and Instagram.

Orange Amplification has solved the perennial problem of instrument cables tangling and kinking, with the launch of the new Orange Twister Cable.

This age-old problem has frustrated musicians and inventors since the dawn of electrified music and Orange has had to think outside the box to create a solution that provides freedom of movement on stage without the need for a digital wireless unit.

True performers are not static and cables can knot and prevent them from moving and turning on stage. The innovative Twister Cable incorporates a unique Twister module (patents applied for) which rotates freely preventing the cable from tangling and kinking.

The Twister module itself is machined from high quality, lightweight, aircraft grade aluminium, incorporating three sealed internal precision ball races ensuring a robust and reliable cable for performing musicians. The signal transmitted remains unaffected and uninterrupted due to the unit’s extremely low noise factor. Featuring the highest grade of oxygen-free copper cabling, the new Twister Cables achieve the same high performance of signal transmission as Orange’s existing Professional Cable range, ensuring optimum clarity and articulation with the additional benefit of tangle-free operation.

Features include:
• Prevents cables from tangling in use, without the need for wireless technology.
• Durable precision aluminium casing with three internal ball races.
• Superior low noise transmission of sound with excellent frequency response.
• Available as part of the Orange Professional Cable range in instrument and microphone configurations with genuine Neutrik connectors.
• Twister module is available in black or silver finishings.

The Orange Twister Cable is available to purchase from Feb/March 2015.

Orange Amplification will be showing the Orange Twister Cable and all its other new products at their Booth 4890 Hall C at Winter NAMM 2015. That trend seems to be shifting as more and more of these diminutive divas are upsized and reconfigured into multichannel, higher wattage versions.

Orange’s new Dual Dark 50 (which is also available as a 100-watt head) does far more than just repackage the Dark Terror’s high-gain engine. It offers earth-shaking tonal depth, power attenuation and two highly versatile channels, one of which is an entirely new dynamic preamp section created specifically for the Dual Dark series.

Features: Chrome face handles, bulletproof construction and beveled cabinet edges are all familiar sights for fans of Orange’s classic heads, as are the front panel’s pictograph control markers. Channel A offers controls for volume, treble, middle, bass and gain, while channel B’s minimalist but effective control set includes controls for gain, volume and shape.

This shape control is similar to the one seen in numerous other Oranges, effectively allowing the player to dial through a range of EQ curves and achieve ideal midrange balance. Channels are footswitchable or can be selected via the front-panel switch.

The Dual Dark ships with a pair of EL-34 power tubes that pump out 50 watts, but 6L6s and other tetrode tubes can be used, if biased correctly. Power is switchable on the front panel from 50 to 25 watts, but Orange has also included a footswitchable attenuator, which controls attenuation for both channels. Unlike simple preamp attenuation, this circuit allows players to experience the harmonic bliss of a cooked power section at any volume level. Rear panel jacks are included for the tube-driven effect loop, three speaker outputs (two eight and one 16 ohm), and optional channel and attenuator footswitches.

Performance: Curious to see if what I’d heard of the Dual Dark’s abilities was true, I set the amp’s gain at nearly full. What came out was a hair-raising blast of dizzying distortion. Still, this gloriously insane level of gain was controlable, allowing notes to sing without being mushy and lows to sound chunky and tight. Either channel is capable of this wild overdrive, yet each can also be dialed back for truly harmonious clean and historic British crunch derivatives.

Channel A, specifically designed for the Dual Dark, includes complex harmonic tonal elements from the high-end “Pics Only” Orange heads, with much more gain on tap. Channel B is accurately billed as a reproduction of the Dark Terror’s speaker-hammering preamp, only it sounds much deeper, fuller and defined through the Dual Dark’s more robust power section.

Street Prices: 50-watt, $2,299; 100-watt, $2,499
Manufacturer: Orange Amplification, orangeamps.com

Cheat Sheet: Rich with tube tone and impressively malleable, both channels can produce anything from top-shelf clean to vintage crunch and modern über-gain sounds.

Switchable full and half-power options, along with power amp attenuation, provide control over the power amp’s drive, response and overall volume.

The Bottom Line Taking its place among the elite super-high-gain heads, Orange’s all-tube Dual Dark 50 is equally proficient at producing modern, ear-melting gain and yesteryear’s British chime.

Orange Amplification is launching a limited-edition white finish of its Rockerverb guitar amp heads and combos, Thunderverb 200 and 50 heads, PPC412 and PPC212 speaker enclosures.

These sought-after heads and speaker enclosures will be available finished in a white Levant covering trimmed with gold piping and gold capped handles.

The Orange Rockerverb series, long regarded as a British guitar amp masterpiece, are versatile, roadworthy amps covering a wide range of tones.

The Thunderverb series amps were recently described by Guitar World as having "jaw-dropping British tones, superb versatility and exceptional quality."
