Richard Thompson has made a career of shaking things up with his voice and his guitar. He has appeared on over 40 albums. He could have easily gone into his new album with the mindset of what has worked and been successful before. But he isn't one to take it easy. He wanted something or someone to challenge him.
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has announced a solo tour, leading up to his appearance at this summer's Newport Folk Festival. With the announcement comes news that a Tweedy solo album will be released soon, with details to be announced.
Chris Thomas of C. F. Martin & Co. recently visited the Guitar World office in New York City. Accompanying him were four new Martin models -- a 00-DB Jeff Tweedy, a new D-18, the GPCPA4 Siris and a Custom Shop CS28-12 -- all of which were debuted by the Nazareth, Pennsylvania-based company at the NAMM show in January.
More than a decade and a half has passed since Jeff Tweedy formed Wilco from the ashes of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo. In that time, the group has risen to become one of the most revered acts in current popular music, mining a singular sound that is simultaneously anchored in a rootsy approach and meandering along rock's outer sonic limits.
